The 5th edition of the FIA Karting Historic Super Cup, a favourite of CIK-FIA Vice President Kees Van De Grint, took place on the Belgian Genk circuit as part of the FIA Karting World Championship – KZ at the beginning of September.
The popularity of the event exceeded the expectations of the organisers. Entries had to be closed early. The 42 karts selected gave an excellent insight into the evolution of chassis design since the pioneer era and the participants came from ten different nationalities, with karting legends such as Martin Bott, Jeff Wullens, Georg Bellof and Paul Lemmens to name just a few.
The running on the track aroused real interest in the public, covering a wide age range. The exhibition of these exciting machines located at the entrance to the paddock was a real insight into Historic Karts, bringing together Karts emblematic of the evolution of the discipline such as the Reattino, the first kart produced by the oldest manufacturer of karts still in activity Birel, a Tecno Piuma that forever revolutionised chassis design, and the original CRG / Parilla kart with which Lewis Hamilton won the European FA Championship in 2000.
